Sr Margaret Mary Knobel died 23 March 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Queenie Knobel was born in East London, Cape Province, SA on 22 September 1875. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse, King William’s Town in January 1906 and made her Profession on 18 August 1907. She taught at many of the Convent Schools, including those in Cradock, East London, Potchefstroom, Queenstown, Fort Beaufort and St Maurus Mission, Polokwane where she was Superior.
Sr Corbinian Geiselhart died 30 May 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Rosalie Geiselhart was born inHayingen Munsingen Wurtemberg on 26 February 1886. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1909 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. She came to the Motherhouse in South Africa in 4 April 1911 and worked there for two years before being assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1926 where she was responsible for the baking and gardening. In 1946 she was assigned to the Convent in Stutterheim where she continued to work until her health failed and she became bedridden at the Mater Infirmorum. Here she spent much time reading the Bible.
Sr Siegfrieda Schwarzbart died 31 May 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Schwarzbart was born in Binswangen Schwaben Bavaria on 8 May 1880. After spending some years with the Franciscans in Dillingham she joined the Dominican Order at St Ursula’s Convent in Augsburg and was one of the and became one of the first Candidates at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf. She came to South Africa in November 1903 where she began her work at the Mothehouse in King William’s Town. In 1912 she was assigned to the Convent in Graaff Reinet and subsequently worked in Queenstown, Klerksdorp, Ermelo and Witbank.
Sr Aloysius Achter died 6 June 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Magdalena Achter was born in Nisselsbach, Aichach, Bavaria on 20 February 1881. She entered the Congregation at at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1898 before coming to the Motherhouse in South Africa in November 1903. She made her Profession on 23 July 1905. On completion of her studies, in 1906 she was assiged to teach Stds III, IV, V as well as art at the Convent School in Graaff Reinet. From 1912 to 1936 she taught at the two Convent Schools in East London. In 1937 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Queenstown, her last station. Here she taught Std I for twenty-two years.
Sr Euphemia Schiele died 15 June 1960 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Mathilde Schiele was born in Pappenbert, Eschenbach, Bavaria on 17 February 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1910 and made her Profession on 10 October 1911. Remaining at the Convent in Schlehdorf she taught music and worked at book-binding for fifty years.
Sr Justina Wuerms died 6 August 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Marie Wuerms was born in Klingenzell Kanton Thurgau Schweiz on 28 January 1904. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in May 1929 and made her Profession on 28 June 1931. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 August 1931 and was assigned to the Convent in Queenstown as cook. She subsequently worked at the Mission Convent in Potchefstroom and later in later in Fort Beaufort, Graaff Reinet and Queenstown.
Sr Rosa Schneider died 23 August 1960 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Emma Schneider was born in Mengen, Saulgau, Wurttemberg on 28 April 1879. She was received into the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf on 8 October 1908 and made her Profession on 19 September 1910. She remained in Schlehdorf as a music teacher, also caring for Candidates and doing secretarial work at various times. In 1948 she developed an eye problem, leaving her quite blind by the time she died.
Sr Marcella Mehrle died 16 October 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Sophie Mehrle was born in Schwangau bei Fuessen Bavaria on 18 October 1879. She came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town from St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in November 1898 and made her Profession on 18 August 1900. After working for three years at the Motherhouse she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she was responsible for the Infirmary, Garden and needlework. In 1911 she was assigned to the Convent in Fort Beaufort, then Potchefstroom and lastly the Mater Infirmorum as an invalid still continuing her needlework.
Sr St Charles Mader died 21 October 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Theresia Mader was born in Ratsmansdorf bei Bertoling Niederbayern Bavaria on 25 October 1894. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1914 and made her Profession on 5 November 1922. She came to South Africa in April 1921 and for the next seven years worked at the Motherhouse before being assigned to the Convent in Fort Beaufort. She worked also in Convent in Queenstown .
Sr Sidonia Dorner died 30 October 1960 at the Princess Nursing Home, Johannesburg
Caecilia Dorner was born in Ausnang Leutkirch Wuerttemberg on 22 August 1903. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in August 1929 and made her Profession on 28 June 1932. She came to South Africa in 12 September 1932 beginning her work at the Motherhouse where she remained until 1948 when she was assigned to the Mater Dei Nursing Home. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Village Main, Pimville and Witbank.
Sr Philothea Krause died 6 October 1960 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Agnes Krause was born in Ratibor, Breslau, Oberschlesien, Prussia on 25 November 1879. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1908. She taught needlework and did bookbinding while at the Motherhouse. She worked briefly at Potchefstroom and East London before returning to the Motherhouse. In 1952 she was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum where she continued the work.
Sr Tarcisia Schmid died 23 November 1960 at St Martin de Porres Convent, Stoke Golding, England
Paula Schmid born in Augsburg, Bavaria on 29 June 1888. She was received into the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in November 1910 and made her Profession on 11 November 1911. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in May 1910 and in 1912 she was assigned as teacher at the Convent School in East London and then in King William’s Town. From 1920 to 1922 she studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown and was then sent to teach in Graaff Reinet. In 1935 she was sent to England to the Convent in Earl Shilton where she taught for a year before being assigned to St Albert’s Convent in Hinckley, Leicestershire, England and St Martin’s Convent in Stoke Golding.
Sr Magdala Stahler died 26 November 1960 at the Princess Nursing Home, Johannesburg
Regina Stahler was born in Poedeldorf Bamberg Bavaria on 25 May 1921. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in February 1933 and made her Profession on 5 January 1935. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 10 February 1935 and was assigned to Sacred Heart Convent East London. She subsequently worked at the Motherhouse, Izeli, Fort Beaufort and Stutterheim doing mostly needlework and housework.

Sr Jordana Kekeis died 25 January 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Anna Kekeis was born in Darvius Vorarlberg Austria on 10 February 1864. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 November 1898. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900 and worked as Cook at the Motherhouse for a year before being assigned to the Convent in Izeli. Here she worked until 1929 with a few years in between back at the Motherhouse. From 1930 to 1939 she worked at the Convent in Woodlands.
Sr Siegberta Forster died 2 February 1959 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Rosalie Forster was born in Ried Amt Muehldorf Bavaria on 14 February 1879. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1911 and made her Profession on 5 October 1914. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 18 March 1913. In 1915 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where her duties till the end of her life were baking, cooking and agriculture.
Sr Alexandra Oberdorfer died 6 February 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Barbara Oberdorfer was born in Bobingen bei Augsburg, Schwaben, Bavaria on 30 October 1874. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1898 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 November 1898. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900. For a number of years Sister was baker and shoemaker at the Motherhouse, before being assigned to work at the Convent in Izeli for a year, and then Woodlands for three years before returning to the Mothehouse. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Graaff Reinet Cradock, Belgravia, Potchefstroom and, finally, the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr de Chantal Fitspatrick died 3 March 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Mary Fitzpatrick was born in at sea, in the Roadsted, East Londonon 9 October 1879. Orphaned at the age of five she lived as a boarder at the Convent boarding house in King William’s Town before she entered the Congregation as a Postulant in 1898. She made her Profession on 22 July 1899. She taught at various Convent Schools including those in King William’s Town, East London, Queenstown, Cradock and Fort Beaufort.
Sr Meinrad Schwoerer died 6 March 1959 at the Komati Hospital, Queenstown
Stephana Schwoerer was born in Neustadt, Baden on 10 December 1887. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1913 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in October 1921 . After spending two years at the Convent in Belgravia she was assigned to the Convent School in Witbank, then Klerksdorp and Izeli. In 1937 she became ill and was hospitalised until her death.
Sr Monica Enzensberger died 17 March 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Enzensberger was born in Breitenbrunn bei Mindelheim Bavaria on 15 October 1895. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1922 and made her Profession on 25 August 1923. She came to South Africa in 12 March 1925. In 1927 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she assisted the cook and worked in the fields. She worked also at the Mater Infirmorum and the Convent in Fort Beaufort.
Sr Berchmans Schiller died 26 March 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Bertha Schiller was born in Frattingsdorf, Hoversdorf, Linz, Austria on 5 April 1887. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1896 and made her Profession on 18 August 1900. She arrived at the Motherhousee in South Africa in 1 November 1898 and after two years there was assigned to Maris Stella Convent in East London. With a two-year break in 1904 to 1905 at the Motherhouse she continued to teach here until, in 1933 she she was sent to Sacred Heart Convent East London and in 1934 to the Convent in Fort Beaufort. In 1935 she was delighted to be transferred to the Convent in Stutterhead where she was able to get involved in Missionary Work. In 1953 to 1955 she worked in the Sacristy at the Convent of Our Lady of Fatima Lilyfontein.
Sr Amica Gebhardt died 1 April 1959 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, King William's Town
Margaret Gebhardt was born in Kirchehrenbach, Bamberg, Bavaria on 15 May 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1898 and made her Profession on 18 August 1900. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 1 December 1898 and was assigned as Assistant Teacher. In 1903 she transferred to teach at the Convent School in East London and in 1912 in Belgravia. From 1914 to 1919 she taught in Potchefstroom before being sent to Calaroga Convent in Grahamstown to further her studies. From 1923 she taught High School classes in Potchefstroom and Fort Beaufort.
Sr Agreda Holfelder died 12 August 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Magdalena Holfelder was born in Kirchrottenbach, Schnaittach, Eichstatt, Bavaria on 9 December 1887. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in March 1907 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in 21 April 1909. A good teacher, Sr Agreda taught at a number of the Convent schools, including those in Klerksdorp, King William;s Town, East London, Village Main, Fort Beaufort, Stutterheim and Witbank.
Sr Lucy Kaltenstadler died 23 March 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 93
The last of the Foundresses
Elizabeth Kaltenstadler was born in Affing near Augsburg, Bavaria on 7 November 1865. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1982 and made her Profession on 1 March 1884. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 14 October 1882 to join the Congregation which at that time numbered only 20 Sisters. The following year she was sent to found a new Convent in East London. For most of her life she was to hold positions of responsibility: inn Potchefstroom as Superior; at the Motherhouse and Klerksdorp as Prioress. From 1905 to 1911 and again from 1917 to 1928 she carried the burden of the office of Prioress General.
Sr Angela Hanshuber died 18 April 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 91
Katharina Hanshuber was born in Hohenstadt near Passau, Bavaria on 23 October 1867. She entered the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1887 and made her Profession on 24 January 1890. She arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 1 November 1888. In 1890 she was assigned to teach at the new Convent School in Potchefstroom and from 1892 to 1893 she helped to nurse at the new private Hospital in Klerksdorp but returned to Potchefstroom after its closing. She subsequently taught in Izeli, Molepo in N. Transvaal and St Louis Bertrand Mission in Potchefstroom.
Sr Borgia Pernizky died 27 June 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Rosalia Pernizky was born in Schonau, Mahren, Austria on 30 August 1879. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 8 August 1906. She Arrived at the Mothehouse in King William’ Town in 7 December 1904 and was assigned to Maris Stella Convent in East London. From 1909 to 1919 she taught at the Convent School in Potchefstroom and then in Graaff Reinet and Cradock before being sent to St Scholastica’s Mission in Tshitali. From 1939 to 1946 she taught at the Mission of the Immaculate Conception in Zeerust before returning to Tshitali. She taught briefly in Keilands and Izeli.
Sr Guala Fauser died 13 July 1959 at the St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Margareta Fauser was born in Obermedlingen Dillingen Bavaria on 1 March 1898. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in October 1925 and made her Profession on 29 April 1928. Sister remained in Schlehdorf doing various tasks including carpentry, working in the fields and care of livestock.
Sr Blasia Huber died 17 August 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 91
Genovefa Huber was born in Oberdorf bei Kaufbeuren Schwaben Bavaria on 24 June 1868. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1888 and made her Profession on 25 March 1892. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 19 September 1889 and the following year she was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom. She spent many years of her long life caring for the gardens at various Convents, including those in Potchefstroom, East London, King William’s Town, Fort Beaufort, Queenstown and at the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Rosalia Lorenz died 22 August 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Lorenz was born in Einholz bei Schalldorf Steinkirchen Grafing Oberba on 23 July 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1910 and made her Profession on 11 November 1911. On 5 May 1910 she arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa and in 1912 was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she worked in the kitchen, laundry, fields and caring for the poultry.
Sr Columba Koller died 28 August 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Agnes Koller was born in Starnberg, Munich, Bavaria on 25 May 1891. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1892 and made her Profession on 3 April 1894. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town 1892. In 1894 she was assigned to join the foundation of the Convent in Graaff Reinet and in 1896 that in Klerksdorp as teacher. She subsequently taught at the Convent Schools in Potchefstroom, the Motherhouse, Belgravia, Fort Beaufort and Stutterheim.
Sr Cyrilla Hoezl died 27 September 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Kreszentia Hoezl was born in Dengling, Sunching, Regensburg, Bavaria on 5 December 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1905 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 24 April 1907. In 1910 she was assigned to teach at the Convent in East London and then Graaff Reinet. In 1924 she was sent to the USA to study for a Diploma in teaching the deaf. In 1925 she returned to the Motherhouse to teach at the Convent Deaf School. In 1934 she was assigned as Principal to the newly established St Vincent School for the Deaf in Melrose Johannesburg. 1941 saw her back in the Eastern Cape, teaching at the Chinese School in East London.
Sr Virgilia Mayer died 9 October 1959 at Maris Stella Convent, East London
Anna Mayer was born in Braunsbach, Kurzelsau, Wurttemberg on 20 August 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 22 April 1908. In 1918 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Queenstown, with an interval of five years teaching at the local Missions of St Therese and Sacred Heart. In the last three years of her life she taught at Maris Stella Convent in East London.
Sr Paula Wahlspoeck died 23 November 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Justina Wahlspoeck was born in Geratskirchen, Dietfurt / Rott, Bavaria on 16 September 1870. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1888 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 16 June 1890. After spending five years at the Motherhouse she was assigned to teach at the Convent Schools in East London, Klerksdorp, Ermelo and Village Main, Johannesburg .
Sr Solana Ernst died 24 November 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Babette Ernst was born in Radldorf Straubing Schoenach on 24 December 1903. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in July 1929 and made her Profession on 5 January 1931. She arrived at the Motherhouse, King William’s Town on 1 August 1931. A music teacher she was assigned to teach at St Teresa of Lisieux Mission in Queenstown and subsequently she taught at the Convent Schools in Fort Beaufort and Cradock.
Sr Felicitas Hartmann died 27 November 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Philomena Hartmann was born in Immenhofen Lenz Oberdorf Untertingau Bavaria on 24 January 1871. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1893 and came to the Motherhouse on 15 November of the same year. She made her Profession on 9 July 1895. In 1894 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she worked in the dairy, the fields and the stables. In 1909 after two years at the Mater Infirmorum she began similar work at Maria Hilf Convent in Woodlands and in East London.
Sr Ferdinand Faisst died 2 December 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Faisst was born in Eggertsweiler, Lindau, Bavaria on 31 July 1870. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1890 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in June of the same year. She made her Profession on 16 January 1892 and was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she worked in the fields but also taught. She soon began to teach Native children having mastered Xhosa. She taught later at the Convent Schools in Graaff Reinet, Woodlands, East London, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Stutterheim and also at the Motherhouse.
Sr Christa Gall died 7 December 1959 at the Garmisch Sanatorium, Germany
Sr Christa Gall was born in Lengerich Westfalen on 14 March 1914. She entered the Congregation as a Candidat at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf on 13 July 1937 and made her Profession on 5 January 1940. Sr Christa remained in Schlehdorf working in the fields and assisting in nursing the sick.
Sr Epiphania Schmid died 21 December 1959 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Agatha Schmid was born in Peiting Schongau Oberbayern Bavaria on 17 November 1872. She joined the Congregation at St Arsula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1898 and arrived at the Motherhouse on 1 November of the same year. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900. In 1901 she was assigned to work at the Convent in Izeli and the following year she moved to Keilands. She did mostly outdoor work at the various Convents, including those at Woodlands and East London.

Sr Joseph Sweetnam died 21 March 1958 at the Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, King William's Town
Mildred Sweetnam was born in Postt Retief, Cape Province, S A on 24 August 1882. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in Jamuary 1904 and made her Profession on 23 July 1905. Following her noviciate at the Motherhouse she was assigned to teach at the Convent Schools in Potchefstroom, Cradock, Queenstown, East London and Stutterheim. Sr Joseph left an unpublished manuscript of the history of the Congregation up to 1957. See

Sr Brendan Mittemayer died 3 July 1958 at the Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, King William's Town
Mathilde Mittemayer was born in Schafweid, Pfarrkirchen, Passau, Bavaria on 3 January 1884. She entered the Congregation as a Candidat at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in October 1905 and made her Profession on 27 February 1910. On 23 April 1907 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town. For several years she remained at the Motherhouse, teaching commercial subjects at the Commercial School. In 1915 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Queenstown and later in Potgietersrust and Springs.
Sr Rosaria Galonska died 20 July 1958 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Konstantine Galonska was born in Zaborze-Poremba, Breslau, Prussia on 3 May 1889. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 23 April 1908 where she continued her musical training for which she had a great talent. In 1910 she was assigned to teach music at the Convent School in Queenstown and later at the Motherhouse, Queenstown, Belgravia, East London, Fort Beaufort, Graaff Reinet. Klerksdorp, Springs and Izeli.
Sr Isidora Wiedemann died 6 August 1958 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Wiedemann was born in Finningen bei Neu-Ulm Bavaria on 24 March 18732. She Joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 10 June 1890. She made her Profession on 16 January 1892. In 1891 she was assigned to the newly acquired Farm Convent, Izeli where she cared for the livestock and ploughed the lands in the greatest heat. She worked also at the Mission in Keilands, in Woodlands, East London, Queenstown and Cradock.
Sr Cosmas Seibel died 5 October 1958 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Amalie Seibel was born in Hauenstein Rheinpfalz Palatina Bavaria on 24 October 1884. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in July 1906 and made her Profession on 30 October 1909. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1908 and was assigned to the Mater Infirmorum Convent where she spent a number of years occupied with general household duties. In 1916 she was sent to Fort Beaufort and subsequently to Klerksdorp and Izeli. Her responsibilities included baking, care of the livestock and the fields.
1957
Sr Euphemia Weber died 4 January 1957 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Queenstown
Agatha Weber was born in Oberkessach, Wurttemberg on 5 February 1886. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf at an early age and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. On 4th April 1911 she arrived from Schlehdorf at the Motherhouse in South Africa. Here she remained until 1919 studying singing, harmony and piano. Being gifted with a beautiful voice she was able to make her pupils love music at the Convent schools where she taught, including those in Cradock. Potchefstroom, East London, Graaff Reinet and Queenstown.
Sr Nepomucena Knupfer died 12 February 1957 in Riehen, Switzerland
Agatha Knupfer was born in Hayingen, Munsingen, Wurttemberg on 24 February 1884. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ueaul’s Convent Augsburg in 1904 before going to St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in the same year. Snd made her Profession on 8 October 1908. She remained in Schlehdorf until 1949, caring for the garden and machinery. In 1950 she was transferred to Dominikushaus Convent in Riehen, Switzerland where she remained.
Sr Assumpta Mayr died 9 June 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Mayr was born in Fronhofen, Dimandstein, Bavaria on 1 August 1870. She joined the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1897 and made her Profession on 22 July 1899. On 22 October 1897 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and was assigned to the Convent in Izseli the following year. She returned to the Motherhouse where she remained working until 1905 when she was sent to the Convent in Queenstown for a short while. Apart from the many years she worked in the laundry at the Motherhouse she also worked for shorter periods in Grahamstown, Potchefstroom and Ermelo. Nearly blind towards the end of her life she spent many hours before the Blessed Sacrament.
Sr Afra Meier died 9 July 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Maria Meier was born in Ergolding bei Landshut, Bavaria on 30 January 1873. She joined the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1893 and made her Profession on 9 July 1895. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 15 November 1893 and in 1896 was assigned to Holy Family Mission in Keilands where she continued the craft she had learned before entering the Convent, that is as a shoemaker at which she was very skilled. In 1900 Sister was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she continued repairing and making shoes for all who needed them. Her skill was particularly valuable given the many orphans who passed through the Convents.
Sr Benvenuta Saumweber died 8 July 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 92
Mathilde Saumweber was born in Au bei Dinkelscherben Suzmmarshausen Bavaria on 13 March 1865. She joined the Congregation as a Candidate at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1882 and made her Profession on 15 January 1885. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in October 1882 and in 1884 was assigned to Sacred Heart Convent in East London. She then worked at the Convent in Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom. In 1897 she helped to nurse the sick and wounded during the Matabele War in Rhodesia before returning to Graaff Reinet and then the Motherhouse.
Sr Gisella Greissl died 12 July 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town aged 91
Luzia Greissl was born in Pestenacker, Wallishausen, Schwabhausen, Bavaria on 13 December 1865. She joined the Congregation as a Oistulant at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1892 and made her Profession on 9 July 1895. She arrived at the Motherhouse in 1893 and was assigned to teach at the Boys’ School and later at the Deaf Institute. An art teacher, one of her deaf pupils was the later Professor of Art at Cape Town University, Professor Willy G G Bevington who painted the famous portrait of Cecil John Rhodes. In 1924/5 Sister Gisella did a training course in the USA for teaching the Deaf. On her return to South Africa she did Mission work in the Northern Transvaal.
Sr Silveria Graf died 18 July 1957 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Frieda Graf was born in Erzingen, Baden on 15 July 18954. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1914 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. Due to the outbreak of WW I she had to wait in Schlehdorf before going to South Africa. In Schlehdorf she continued her studies and arrived at the Motherhouse in February 1921. The following year she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli and then to Holy Family Mission in Keilands. She worked in Potgietersrust, Tshitali and East London.
Sr Praxedis Tutzer died 26 August 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Katharina Tutzer was born in Steinegg, Blumau, Trient, Tyrol, Austria on 24 March 1887. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1908 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. She arrived at the Mothehouse in King William’s Town on 21 April 1909 and in 1912 to 1918 she was assistant Teacher at the Convent Schools in Fort Beaufort, Graaff Reinet and Cradock. She taught in Klerksdorp, Potgietersrust and Springs before returning to Klerksdorp. In 1947 she was assigned to Potchefstroom and in 1956 she returned to the Motherhouse.
Sr Jerome Mueller died 27 August 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Mueller was born in Hochstberg, Necarsulm, Wurttemberg on 21 August 1881. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 18 August 1907. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 10 March 1906 and in 1909 was assigned to the Convent in Cradock where she assisted in teaching while studying. In 1914 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Graaff Reinet and in 1922 to Klerksdorp then Potchefstroom. In 1933 she returned to the Eastern Cape to teach High School in East London, Cradock and Fort Beaufort, .
Sr Julia Tannhauser died 13 September 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Tannhauser was born in Salzing Altoetting Oberbayern Bavaria on 28 June 18804. She entered the Congregation as a Candidate at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. In April 1911 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and in 1914 she was assigned to work in the garden at the Convent in Izeli. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Stutterheim, Woodlands and again, Izeli before retiring to the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Luitgard Albrecht died 14 December 1957 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Albrecht was born in Westenried bei Kempten Bavaria on 14 January 1876. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1897 and made her Profession on 22 July 1899. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 October 1897 and remained there until 1903 when she was assigned to the newly founded Convent in Queenstown. In 1908 she was sent for a year to the new Foundation in Belgravia, before returning to Queenstown. She then worked at the Mater Infirmorum and the Convents in East London.

Sr Una Pauly died 14 December 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Elizabeth Pauly was born in Rheydt Duesseldorf on 5 January 1908. She joined the Congregation at St Immacuta Convent Schlehdorf in January 1931 and made her Profession on 5 January 1937. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 7 November 1932 and in 1933 found herself at the Mater Infirmorum, ill. In 1934 she returned to the Motherhouse to complete her Noviciate. In 1937 she was assigned to teach music and to care for boarders at the Convent School in Queenstown and subsequently in Nigel, Springs and Brakpan. In 1953 she returned to Queenstown where she fell ill.
Sr Pancratius Webster died 23 March 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Annie Webster was born in Southampton, England on 18 October 1867. She came to South Africa and entered the Congregation at the Convent of the Sacred Heart Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1885 and made her Profession on 14 April 1887. She remained at the Motherhouse as assistant teacher until 1892 when she was assigned to the Convent School in Potchefstroom. In September 1894 it was her privilege to open the ‘first’ school in Matabeleland (Rhodesia) and at the outbreak of the Matabele War she joined the nursing staff in Bulawayo. In 1898 she returned to South Africa and was assigned to teach at the Mission in Keilands and subsequently in East London and Graaff Reinet. In 1926 she went to Witbank, then Queenstown and Fort Beaufort. At the Motherhouse from 1936 to 1941 she took over the Noviciate after which she was sent to Izeli.
Sr Basilia Ernst died 26 May 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Ernst was born in WMainburg, Niederbayern, Bavaria on 4 April 1872. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in November 1893 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 9 July 1895. She was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she was responsible for needlework. Early on she became deaf due to illness but continued with her sewing in the Convents in East London and Izeli where she spent many years before being sent to the Mater Infirmorum Convent in 1947
Sr Beatrix Schoenhofer died 17 July 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Schoenhofer was born in Wallerdorf, Osterhofen, Niederbayern, Bavaria on 26 October 1867. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1894 and arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa on 6 August 1894. She made her Profession on 19 April 1896. She was assigned to secretarial work at the Convent in Izeli. In 1899 she was assigned as a teacher in Potchefstroom; In 1911 to Fort Beaufort and in 1928 to begin the St Peter Claver Mission Duncan Village, East London. She subsequently taught in Cradock, did general work in Middelburg CP and Stutterheim.
Sr Leontine Wohlleb died 27 July 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Marie Wohlleb was born in Volkersheim, Biberach, Wurttemberg on 7 June 1872. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1895 and arrived at the Mothehouse in King William’s Town on 11 November 1895. She made her Profession on 16 July 1897. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 11 November 1895 and remained there teaching embroidery until 1899 when she was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom where she taught the lower grades. In 1909 she returned to the Motherhouse to teach and embroider vestments. From 1926 to 1947 she taught needlework in Belgravia.
Sr Nicolina Jauch died 1 August 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Balbina Jauch was born in Marienzell bei Schramberg Wuerttemberg on 29 March 1874. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1895 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 16 July 1897. Sr Nicolina was among the Pioneer Sisters who founded the Convent in Klerksdorp in 1896. Here she spent the next fifty years caring for the Convent Gardens, unperturbed by the Anglo-Boer war and the siege of the town for three months. From 1946 she cared for the orchards and vineyards at the Mater Infirmorum Convent.
Sr Placida Mueller died 7 September 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Barbara Mueller was born in Gailenbach, Augsburg on 23 February 1873. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1895 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 11 November of the same year. She made her Profession on 16 July 1897. Her first assignment was to the Convent in East London as assistant needlework teacher. She subsequently taught needlework at the Convent schools in Klerksdorp, Belgravia, Graaff Reinet, Queenstown, Cradock and Stutterheim. She was then sent to the Mater Infirmorum as Superior until she became bed-ridden.
Sr Francis Moosmann died 21 September 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Christina Moosmann was born in Tennenbronn, Villingen, Baden, Germany on 15 December 1875. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1898 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 November of the same year. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900. After her Noviciate she began teaching at the Motherhouse. In 1903 she was assigned to teach at the Convent school in East London and subsequently in Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Graaff Reinet, Cradock and Fort Beaufort and Potgietersrust. She then taught at the Mission schools in Umlamli, Zigudu, Izeli and Woodlands.
Sr Adelaide Vorndran died 20 November 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Pauline Vorndran was born in Munich Bavaria on 17 July 1875. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1892 and made her Profession on 26 February 1895. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1892 and in 1899 she was assigned to Maris Stella Convent in East London. Subsequently she taught at the Convent Schools in Graaff Reinet, Potchefstroom, Belgravia, Witbank and Queenstown.
Sr Aurelia Eisgruber died 21 November 1956 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Eisgruber was born inAssling, Grafing, Oberbayern, Bavaria on 31 October 1887. She joined the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1908 and made her Profession on 21 November 1912. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 4 April 1911 and in 1913 was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom where she taught music. She taught music in the Convent Schools in Graaff Reinet, Klerksdorp, Izeli, the Missions in Zeerust and Tshitali and the Convent Schools in Witbank and Nigel.
Sr Osmana Reim died 26 December 1956 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse, King William's Town
Kreszentia Reim was born in Entrischenbrunn Bavaria on 23 September 1905. She Entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in March 1927 and made her Profession on 30 October 1928. She remained at the Motherhouse while she studied at the Teachers’ Training College and in 1935 she was assigned to teach Std IV at the Convent School in Graaff Reinet. She taught briefly at the school in Belgravia before returning to teach at the Motherhouse where she was Principal of the Primary School.

Sr Diana Zeller died 16 June 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Kreszenz Zeller was born in Altusried, Kempten, Bavaria on 26 November 1871. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg and arrived at the Motherhouse in South Africa in November 1893. She made her Profession on 9 July 1895. In 1896 she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Graaff Reinet and in 1907 returned to the Motherhouse where she taught for eleven years. In 1920 she was assigned to the Convent Schools in East London first to Maris Stella and then to Sacred Heart.
Sr Timothea Hertsch died 6 July 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Margareta Hertsch was born in Wetzleberg Post Altusried Kempten Bavaria on 8 January 1883. She joined the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in April 1909 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 April 1909 and in 1910 was assigned to the Convent in Izeli. She subsequently worked at the Convents in King William’s Town, Cradock and Graaff Reinet.
Sr Blanca Haag died 16 July 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Catharina Haag was born in Seedorf, Oberndorf, Waldmossingen, Wurttemberg on 29 October 1874. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in September 1894 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town soon after. She made her Profession on 16 July 1897. In 1898 she was assigned to the Convent School in Izeli where she taught Std III and IV. She subsequently taught in East London, Graaff Reinet, Potchefstroom and Cradock.
Sr Peter O'Connor died 7 October 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Mary Ann O’Connor was born in Cape Town, South Africa on 9 September 1869. She entered the Congregation at The Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1885 and made her Profession on 14 Aprpil 1887. In 1889 she was sent as one of the Founding Sisters to Potchefstroom and returned to King William’s Town in 1991. Sr Peter taught at the Motherhouse, in Belgravia and East London until her retirement at the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Lidwina Brassell died 14 October 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Bridget Brassell was born in Grahamstown South Africa on 1 November 1874. She entered the Congregation at what was then known as the Convent Farm, and later the Convent of Our Lady of the Rosary in Izeli. She made her Profession here on 16 July 1897. Being of frail health she nevertheless spent thirty years teaching Class Singing at the Convent. She was also Secretary at the Convent and her ‘calligraphy was a joy to look at.’ Her ill health finally necessitated her move to the Mater Infirmorum in 1942.
Sr Aquin Fraenkel died 26 January 1955 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Fraenkel was born in Mengen, Saulgau, Wurttemberg on 26 December 1882. She joined the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf, was received in October 1908 and made her Profession on 19 September 1910. She taught drawing and painting during her many years at the Convent in Schlehdorf and continued to do so after her arrival in South Africa on 17 December 1928. She taught at the Convent School in East London until her death. Her paintings were numerous including landscapes and religious works which were in a number of the South African Convents. Sadly only three remain in the possession of the Congregation.

Sr Canisia Reiser died 16 January 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Walburga Reiser was born in Egwiel, Eichstatt, Bavaria on 23 February 1885. She joined the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1906 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town 10 March 1906. She made her Profession on 18 August 1907. Apart from one year at the Convent in Graaff Reinet she remained at the Motherhouse until 1916. She spent two years in Grahamstown and returned to the Motherhouse where she taught High School children. In 1930, as Mistress of Schools she was assigned to the Convent in Cradock and then to Belgravia. She subsequently taught at the Convent Schools in Witbank and East London.
Sr Salesia Kaes died 24 March 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Aloysia Kaes was born in Oberigling bei Buchloe, Bavaria on 16 September 1868. In 1888, aged twenty she joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1889. She made her Profession on 25 June 1891. She was a teacher of needlework but her work lay chiefly in the Sacristy in the Convents in King William’s Town, where she was Mistress of Novices from 1895 to 1899, Potchefstroom (1901 – 1906), Graaff Reinet, where she was Prioress from 1922 to 1927, and the Mater Infirmorum where she was also Prioress for a time.
Sr Fabiana Kessler died 14 April 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Angelica Kessler was born in Klein Walsertal, Riezler, Vorarlbeg, Austria on 5 February 1876. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1898 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 November of that year. She made her Profession on 18 August 1900. In 1901 she was assigned to the Convent Mission in Izeli and subsequently worked at Mission in various towns of the Eastern Cape including Keilands, Woodlands, East London, Middelburg and Queenstown. Having studied the Xhosa language she was able to do much work among the peoples of the countryside, travelling in the beginning on foot or on a donkey and later accompanying visiting Priests by car.
Sr Aurelia Rhode died 10 June 1954 at St Immaculat Convent, Schlehdorf
Sr Aurelia was born in Schlochau / Pommern on 13 July 1913. Originally, from 1939, a Schwichteler Sister, she joined the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1949 when the Community closed. She remained in Schlehdorf where she did mostly Church embroidery. During the war years she had contracted a serious illness which led to a weakend heart and eventually led to her death.
Sr Alma Prokop died 16 August 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Prokop was born in Moedling, Wien, Austria on 15 October 1874. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in 1896 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town soon after. She made her Profession on 21 July 1898. After several years at the Motherhouse she was assigned in 1902 to teach at the Convent School in Klerksdorp. She subsequently taught at the schools in Graaff Reinet, Cradock, Sterkspruit, Potchefstroom, Stutterheim and Brakpan.
Sr Margareta Stegmeier died 1 September 1954 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Victoria Stegmeier was born in Oberbembach, Aichach, Bavaria on 29 October 1874. She joined the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf, being a Candidate from St Joseph’s, Ursburg, in September 1904 and made her Profession on 6 October 1907. She remained in Schlehdorf as a Sacristan, Editor of the magazine Missions Rosen and taught music at the school.
Sr Seraphia Kasek died 15 September 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Kasek was born in Oppeln Oberschlesien Prussia on 3 May 1894. She joined the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent Schledorf in 1920 and made her Profession on 5 November 1922. On 29 April 1921 she arrived at the Motherhouse in KIng William’s Townand in 1923 she was assigned to work at the Convent in Witbank where she did mainly the laundry and garden. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Belgravia, Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, East London, Brakpan and Ermelo.
Sr Mathia Hengge died 20 September 1954 at the Glen Grey Mission Hospital, Lade Frere, Queenstown
Louise Hengge was born in Gebratshofen Wuertemberg on 17 July 1908. She joined the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in January 1933 and made her Profession on 28 June 1934. On 8 August 1934 she arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town and after training as a nurse in Pietermaritzburg with the Holy Family Sisters was assigned to nurse at the Convent Hospitals in Queenstown and Lady Frere. Diagnosed with terminal cancer she died at the age of 46.

Sr Cajetan Brandl died 24 November 1954 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Rosalia Brandl was born in Frauenneuharting, Grafing, Ebersberg, Bavaria on 10 MNarch 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in April 1909 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 April 1909 and remained working there until 1917 when she was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom. She subsequently worked at the Convents in Keilands, Cradock, Izeli, Queenstown and the Missions at Indwe and Zigudu.

Sr Perpetua Wannersdorfer died 15 March 1953 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart MOtherhouse, King William's Town
Anna Wannersdorfer was born in Kelheim, Donau, Bavaria on 5 January 1870. In 1892 she joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 26 February 1895. In 1896, an accomplished needlework teacher, she was sent as Superior to the Sacred Heart Convent in East London and in 1900 as Superior at Maris Stella Convent. She was subsequently Superior at the Convents in Izeli, Queenstown and Klerksdorp. In 1925 she returned to the Motherhouse as Novice Mistress and two years later was appointed Superior at St Immaculata Convent in Schlehdorf. She returned to South Africa in 1933 and was sent as Superior to the Convents in Queenstown, Izeli. In 1946 she returned to the Motherhouse where she remained till her death.
Sr Godfrieda Frommknecht died 22 March 1953 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart Klerksdorp
Sophie Frommknecht was born in Grunenbach, Harbatzhofen, Augsburg, Bavaria on 4 February 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1909 and made her Profession on 1 November 1910. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 April 1909 where she remained teaching music until 1921 when she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Belgravia. She subsequently taught at the schools in Cradock, Potchefstroom, Queenstown and lastly in Klerksdorp where she died.
Sr Ephrem Albrecht died 25 March 1953 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Josepha Albrecht was born in Westenried Post Wiegensbach Bavaria on 20 November 1885. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 25 April 1908. In 1906 ahe arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town. Here, and later at the Mater Infirmorum she worked in the fields, gardens and stables. In 1914 she was assigned to the Convent at Izeli where she continued to work. Later, at the Convents in Cradock and East London she worked equally well at the domestic tasks allocated to her.
Sr Adalberta Brand died 10 July 1953 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart Motherhouse, King William's Town
Bertha Brand was born in Groekonig, Silesia, Prussia on 27 June 1880. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1906 and made her Profession on 17 October 1908. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1907. She was an expert in the use of a knitting machine and produced many pairs of socks and stockings throughout her Convent life which she spent mostly in King William’s Town but also in East London and Klerksdorp.
Sr Alacoque Brien died 10 July 1953 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Mary Hyacinth Brien was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on 14 February 1877. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at Convent of the Sacred Heart, Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1894 and made her Profession on 19 April 1896. She remained at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town until July 1899 when she was assigned to teach at the Convent School in Potchefstroom. She then taught Primary School children in East London, Klerksdorp and the Motherhouse before completing a BA degree in Grahamstown. She returned to the Motherhouse where she taught High School classes, was General Secretary and served on the General Council. Sr Alacoque wrote poetry for many occasions, a sample of which can be found in The Silver Star 1954 and also in a booklet of selected poems in her file in the Archives of the Sisters.
Sr Irenea Bestle died 2 September 1953 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Mathilde Bestle was born in Muehldorf Oberbayern Bavaria on 26 July 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1920 and made her Profession on 2 April 1922. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 19 February 1921. In 1924 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she worked in the fields and later in the kitchen, baking. She waorked also at the Convents in Cradock, Zigudu, Woodlands and Stutterheim.
Sr Valeriana Steiner died 9 October 1953 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Caecilia Steiner was born in Wang bei Nussdorf Bavaria on 10 November 1872. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg in October 1895 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King Williajm’s Town on 31 October 1896 where she made her Profession on 21 July 1898. In 1899 she was assigned to the Convent in Potchefstroom where she worked in the kitchen, dairy and garden for twenty three years She then worked in Woodlands and Keilands before ill health forced her to retire at the Mater Infirmorum Convent.
Sr Ignatius Nagele died 13 October 1953 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Florentine Nagele was born in Petersthal, Kempten, Allgau, Bavaria on 26 July 1888. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1920 and made her Profession on 1 November 1875. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 1 November 1898. An Art Teacher she taught at the Convent Schools in East London, Queenstown, Potchefstroom, King William’s Town and Belgravia. Between 1926 and 1952 she was Prioress at the Convents in King William’s Town and Potchefstroom. She it was who designed the new blue uniform in the 1930s and encouraged the revival of ‘The Silver Star’ magazine which had been allowed to lapse.
Sr Dominika Zuktriegel died 19 November 1953 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Rosa Zuktriegel was born in Herrestshofen, Kirchhaslach, on 18 Jamuary 1884. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1908 and made her Profession on 19 September 1910. She remained at the Convne tin Schlehdorf where she taught needlework and cared for the boarders at the Convent. During World War II from 1939 to 1945 she served as Prioress of the Convent and laster as Sub-Prioress.

Sr Anastasia Vordemayr died 3 February 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Jakoba Vordemayr was born in Jettenhausen bei Tittmaning, Bavaria on 18 August 1872. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in King William’s Town in 1901 and made her Profession on 15 August 1903. After her Profession at the Motherhouse she took up her life-long task of Vestiarian and Portress first at the Motherhouse and then at Graaff Reinet, Potchefstroom, East London, Maria Hilf Convent, Woodlands, and the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Lambertina Lippert died 17 February 1952 at Lumku Mission in the Eastern Cape
Anna Lippert was born in Kleinschwand Pfreimd Oberpfalz Bavaria on 15 October 1886. She journeyed with the first party that left Schlehdorf after the war in 1921, arriving at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 29 April. She made her Profession on 5 November 1922. A Cook by profession she worked at the Convents in King William’s Town, Woodlands, Izeli, and finally at Lumku Mission,
Sr Theresita Binder died 11 April 1952 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
Magdalena Binder was born in Munchen, Bavaria on 1 October 1895. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent Schlehdorf in 1914 and, due to World War I, was unable to make her Profession until 29 July 1922. She remained in Schlehdorf as a Teacher, and also at various times Mistress of Candidates and Mistress of Postulants. Towards the end of her life she was Sub-Prioress.
Sr Bertranda Miller died 25 June 1952 at the Convent of the Sacred Heart Motherhouse, King William's Town
Maria Miller was born in Biberach, Wurttemberg on 5 November 1862. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent Augsburg before coming to South Africa on 21 October 1897. She made her Profession on 22 July 1899. A Teacher, Sr Bertranda taught at a number of Convent Schools including Maris Stella and Sacred Heart in East London, King William’s Town, where she was also Novice Mistress and later Superior, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp. A great love was that of knitting, the proceeds of which were sent to support the Missions.
Sr Winifred Simpkins died 6 July 1952 at the Kensington Sanatorium, Johannesburg
Mary Simpkins was born in Adelaide, Fort Beaufort, South Africa on 10 August 1875. Born of Anglican parents Mary was educated at the Convent in King William’s Town and in her Matric year read Lord’s History of Europe which gave her food for thought. She became a Catholic and entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in 1894 and made her Profession on 19 April 1896. Sr Winifred taught at the Convent Schools in Klerksdorp, Queenstown, Cradock, Springs, St Vincent’s Melrose and San Salvador in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.
Sr Ludovica Marx died 8 July 1952 at the Mater Indirmorum Convent Motherhouse, King William's Town
Anna Marx was born in Oberzerf, Trier, Prussia on 17 November 1868. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1901 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 November of that year. She made her Profession on 18 August 1903. Sr Ludovica worked, first at the Motherhouse and then at the Convents in Izeli, Belgravia, Potchefstroom and Graaff Reinet. She returned to Potchefstroom in 1920 and remained there as vestarian until her retirement and ill health in 1946.
Sr Willibalda Wecker died 5 September 1952 at the Stutterheim Hospital
Ottilie Wecker was born in Bissingen, Tapfheim, Donauworth, Bavaria on 17 January 1879. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent in Augusburg in 1897 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 22 October 1897. She made her Profession on 22 July 1899. Stioll a Novice she was assigned to teach at the Convent in East London, where she taught Kindergarten Classes and continued to teach the little ones in the Convents to which she was assigned, including those in King William’s Town, Graaff Reinet and Queenstown
Sr Lioba Koch died 3 October 1952 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Barbara Koch was born in Westernach, Bavaria on 7 November 1874. She joined the Congregation at Kloster Wettenhausen in 1893 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 9 July 1895. A Teacher of music, Sr Lioba worked at the Convent schools in East London, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom (during the difficult years of the Anglo/Boer War, 1899 – 1905), Belgravia, Witbank, Cradock, and, no longer teaching music, but seamstress, at Stutterheim.
Sr Cordula Wildenburger died 3 October 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Wildenburger was born in Atermannsberg Reisbach a/d Vils Niederbayern on 19 September 1875. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1897 and arrived at the Motherhouse, King William’s Town on 21 October of that year. She made her Profession on 22 JUly 1899. Beginning at the Convent in Izeli in 1898 she worked in the houses and outdoors in the fields and among the livestock in the Convents in East London, Cradock, Graaff Reinet, King William’s Town and Potchefstroo. In 1925 she returned to the Motherhouse where she took up domestic duties and, later also at the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Ceslaus Riedl died 12 October 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Katharina Riedl was born in Forst Post Falkenheim Oberpfalz Bavaria on 20 April 1874. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent in 1894 and arrived at the Motherhouse, King William’s Town in the same year. She made her Profession on 19 April 1896. It was intended that she would teach but instead she served the Congregation as Cook in the Convents in King William’s Town, Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Fort Beaufort, Cradock, Graaff Reinet, Izeli and finally retiring due to failing health at the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Nortberta Rieble died 13 October 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Marie Rieble was born in Zimmern, Wurttembert, Rottenburg on 16 January 1883. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1904 and made her Profession on 8 August 1906. She departed from Southampton with her group on 12 November 1904 to arrive at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 7 December. She taught in the Convent schools in King William’s Town, Queenstown, Cradock, East London and Fort Beaufort.
Sr Claudia Kusterer died 1 November 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Elisabeth Kusterer was born in Graben, Lager Lechfeld, Augsburg, Bavaria on 19 November 1876. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburg in 1901 and arived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 November of the same yearr. She made her Profession on 15 August 1903. From a musical family and being a Music Teacher, she spent ten years at the Motherhouse Teaching music before being assigned to the Convent in Cradock where she continued teaching, finally returning to the Motherhouse in 1928. She had a rich knowledge of the tradition of both sacred and profane music, learnt at St Ursula’s Convent.
Sr Leopoldina Weiss died 5 November 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Rosina Weiss was born in Geisenhausen bei Landshut Niederbayern on 10 March 1872. She joined the Congregation at Kloster Wettenhausen in 1890 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town in June of the same year. She made her Profession on 6 January 1892. She served the Congregation chiefly as cook in the Convents in King William’s Town, Izeli, East London, Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Belgravia, Fort Beaufort and the Mater Infirmorum.
Sr Aidan Quinlan died 9 November 1952 at Duncan Village, East London
Elsie Quinlan was born in Cork, Ireland on 3 December 1914. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at St Albert’s Convent Convent, Hinckley, Leicestershire England in January 1938 and made her Profession on 5 January 1940. She arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 16 April 1938. In 1938 she was assigned to St Vincent’s School for the Deaf while she did her Medical Studies at the University of Witwatersrand. She worked but seven years as a missionary doctor at the Congregational institutions before her tragic murder during the riots in Duncan Village where she ran a clinic. In those seven years she served as Convent doctor to the East London Convents and lectured at the Mater Dei Nursing Home but her chief work was at St Peter Claver Mission Clinic.
Sr Johanna Pflaum died 13 October 1952 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Pflaum was born in Munchen, Bavaria on 7 August 1880. She Joined the Congregation through St Ursula’s Convent, Augsburt in October 1898 and came to the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 21 November 1901. She made her Profession on 15 August 1903. In 1903 she was assigned to the Convent in Queenstown where she was to teach the Kindergarten classes until 1930, the last few years as Prioress. in 1931 she was sent to Fort Beaufort for six years as Prioress, also teaching. 1937 to 1942 saw her back at the Convent in Queenstown as Prioress and from 1943 until her retirement in 1949 at the Mater Infirmorum she taught once again in Fort Beaufort.

Sr Walburgis Schwager died 15 January 1951 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Maria Anna Schwaager was born in Stoedtlen Ellwangen in Wuerttemberg on 1 February 1867. She joined the Congregation at St Ursula’s Convent, Wettenhausen in 1891 and arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 14 June of the same year. She made her Profession on 6 March 1893. In October 1893 she was assigned to the Convent in Izeli where she worked as a smith, carpenter, mason and book-binder. In 1934 she moved to the Convent in Woodlands where she continued with similar work until her retirement at the Mater Infirmorum in 1946.
Sr Margareta Moreti died 26 January 1951 at the Glen Grey Hospital, Lady Frere
Celine Moreti was born at the Immaculate Conception Mission, Vleeshfontein South Africa on 8 July 1920. She joined the Congregation at Maria Hilf Convent Noviciate in Woodlands in January 1943 and made her Profession on 6 January 1945. In 1950 she began training as a nurse at Glen Grey Hospital but was unable to continue due to ill health and died shortly after.
Sr Pius Galvin died 3 March 1951 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Nora Galvin was born in Cork, County Cork, Ireland on 21 May 1873. She entered the Congregation as a Postulant at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, King William’s Town in March 1890 and made her Profession on 25 June 1891. Her family had arrived in South Africa from Ireland in 1882 and attended school at St Mary’s Priory in Cape Town. later she attended the Convent in King William’s Town as a boarder, where, at the age of twelve, she became a pupil teacher and instructed girls older than herself. Sr Pius taught at the Convent Schools of King William’s Town, Potchefstroom, Witbank and Belgravia. For a number of years she was Head Mistress of the school at the Motherhouse; she was Directress of Schools and trained many young teachers in their profession.
Sr Evangelista Herley died 22 April 1951 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Alice Herley was born in Port Elizabeth on 5 November 1868. She attended the school in King William’s Town where she qualified as a teacher before she entered the Congregation at the Motherhouse as a Postulant in 1889. She made her Profession on 29 June 1892. In 1890 she was sent to Potchefstroom as a foundation member of the Convent and in 1896 as a foundation member of the Convent in Klerksdorp. Most of her teaching life was spent at the Convents of the Transvaal including those in Belgravia and Ermelo but she also taught at the Convent schools in Cradock and East London.
Sr Remigia Ternes died 10 May 1951 at the Mater Dei Nursing Home, East London
Barbara Ternes was born in Monzel a/d Mosel, Osann, Trier, Rheinland, Prussia on 18 June 1882. She entered the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in 1912 and made her Profession on 5 October 1913. Sr Remigia arrived at the Motherhouse in King William’s Town on 12 April 1912 where she remained until 1934 teaching Kindergarten classes. In 1935 she was assigned to the Convent in East London where she continuted to teach the infant classes.
Sr de Victoria Sporrer died 10 May 1951 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Anna Sporrer was born in Auerbach, Amberg, Bavaria on 17 December 1873. She arrived at the Motherhouse from Germany in December 1892 and was received into the Congregation on 3 April 1894 and made her Profession in the following year on 9 July 1895. Sr de Victoria began teaching High School classes at the Convent School in East London and King William’s Town before being sent to Rhodes University College in Grahamstown where she took a degree as a science teacher. She subsequently taught in Graaff Reinet, Belgravia, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp before returning to the Motherhouse.
Sr Josepha Bachmann died 3 June 1951 at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf
She entered the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf at the age of 38 on 1 April 1950, was received on 10 January 1951 and made her Profession on 3 June 1951 on her deathbed, having developed a delicate state of health while in the Noviciate.
Sr Procla Elbs died 15 July 1951 at the Mater Infirmorum Convent, King William's Town
Thecla Elbs was born in Stuttgart, Wurttemberg on 17 February 1885. She studied Art in Ulm and Munich before entering the Congregation at St Immaculata Convent in Schlehdorf arriving at the Motherhouse in King William’s on 1 April 1914. She made her Profession on 10 October 1915. She taught art at the Motherhouse and the Convent schools in Potchefstroom and Ermelo before having to retire due to failing health.
Sr Alphonsa Stier died 15 July 1951 at St Dominic's Convent, Stutterheim
Franziska Stier was born in Webling, Scheyern, Bavaria on 12 February 1892. She entered the Congregation from the Convent in Scheiern as a Candidate at the St Immaculata Convent, Schlehdorf in February 1924 and made her Profession on 27 April 1926 with the desire to work in the Missions. In 1935 she arrived in South Africa and was assigned to the Convent in Stutterheim where she worked in the house, baking and outdoors taking care of the poultry.
